I'm a rookie writer enjoying the flow of words sprouting out of my fingers. Sometimes it goes easy, at other times it's a real struggle. I love and crave any kind of feedback, good or bad. I write when I can, but a husband, two kids, 4.2 cats (aging from 15 years to 4 months) do take up most of my time. Yet I found the time to try out something I never thought I was good at. I started writing. I came to love it and enjoy the new friendships I've made with fellow writers I simply adore (well I like the writers, but adore their work *grins*)

Review: Devoted - The Complete Series: A BWWM Romance Boxset

Devoted - The Complete Series: A BWWM Romance Boxset Devoted - The Complete Series: A BWWM Romance Boxset by Sadie Black
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

this was an emotional read but with a happy ending. who doesn't love those?
one mistake and she was kicked out of the house at 17. 13 years later she finds herself back in her father's church being the maid of honor to her best friend. she feels uneasy and would rather skip the whole thing altogether. only the best man has his eyes set on her. their first meeting some years ago didn't result in much but he was never able to forget her. both having their own demons and past it's a rocky road to happiness.

this was well written. sometimes a character missed a bit of backbone but it wasn't a major deal-breaker reading-wise. the only bigger thing i found a bit harder to accept is how the 2 y old was written. she was very outspoken at at some points she didn't "feel" like being two years old but like +6, especially with some of the topics that were discussed. i don't belief in sugarcoating things, not even to my own kids. however you do adjust your vocabulaire a bit so it's age appropriate, more understandable. as is, it sometimes felt they were talking to an equal, not a toddler.

Review: THE LONELIEST TOUR

THE LONELIEST TOUR THE LONELIEST TOUR by Karolyn James
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

one bad decision and his world is turned upside down. pulled left right and center to be kept out of jail Jett just wants to be left alone and do what he does best : play guitar! enter Masie who crashes his me-time in the studio. the instant chemistry just jumps at you. Masie has a hard time fighting of the lead singer of the group she's dancing for, he doesn't take kindly to her rejection and he starts pushing things to another level where she eventually ends up hurt badly. during this time she gets a whole lot closer to Jett who is battling hard not to deck the singer of the group who's opening for them while on tour. it feels like going from one situation to the next but Jett is determined to make things work. Masie is THE one for him and he'll battle anyone, even Masie herself, to make his intentions clear.
it's the first book i read in this series but if this is any indication, i'm so reading the rest too!

Review: Beast

Beast Beast by Kim Faulks
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

a very dark adaptation of beauty and the beast. set in the now a young woman is kidnapped and forced to stay in a dungeon, knowing there is some kind of beast with her. her captor is telling the beast will come to love her. confused and scared, she doesn't really know what is real anymore, specially when she appears to fall asleep and through dreams and visions is told the story of Belle and the man know as the beast.
weeks pass and her captor is surprised she's still alive. it seems she wasn't first in this dungeon, but is the first to last as long as she has. her fear is almost gone and it's only when she shows her unconditional trust in the beast that the curse that was put upon him gets lifted.
how will they handle her captor? what happens to the real Belle? if you like dark and gritty you can pick up this book and read yourself.
i would have loved it if the story was fleshed out more, there were so many opportunities to make it shine, even as dark as this story is. the abrupt ending wasn't 100% to my liking, would have appreciated a bit more story telling to make the ending more lasting. a small added epilogue could have done that set a few months down the line.

Review: Hell Bent

Hell Bent Hell Bent by Emma Fawkes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

maid of honor and the best man, what a combination. both expecting the worst but they couldn't have been further from the truth. Bryce is convinced Susie is bad news and first wants to avoid her at all costs but his mind has other ideas and he ends up calling cam and milly in the middle of the night, trying to track down Susie.
it's the start of a whirlwind romance with susie almost literally being swept of her feet by Bryce's tenacity to show her he's worth her time.
i like the story and the characters. i have read Unbroken (cam and milly's story) too and the reason i'm not giving this the five stars it could get is that compared to Unbroken, Milly in this book comes across as a really whiny, insecure child; in Unbroken, she had a back bone and stood up for herself and for cam. I miss that person in this story.

Review: Hooked: A Stepbrother Romance

Hooked: A Stepbrother Romance Hooked: A Stepbrother Romance by Iris Parker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

having been apart for thirteen years, it doesn't take much for Emilia to get angry when she finds out the one person is making the center survive for a while longer is also her stepbrother. a lot has happened since they last saw each other. he's a renowned rugby player, she worked at the center, trying to help less fortunate kids stay out of trouble.
their relationship is rocky and fragile at best but even those thirteen years apart can't stop the chemistry Simon has felt from the first time he saw her. personally this is where i find the big hole in this story, you get a lot of hints at what a bastard he was towards her, trying to cover up his real feelings but we're never really told what really happened. you have to read between the lines to make an educated guess.
despite this one set back i did find this was a good read, emotional and full of conflicts.
